Siwak, also called miswak, is a branch or root piece of the toothbrush tree (Salvadora persica L.) that is used to clean teeth.
The Siwak plays an important role in Islam. Although it is not mentioned in the Koran, according to hadiths, Mohammed (saw) is said to have used it regularly.
Siwak is not only the oldest toothbrush, it is also the best! Unlike plastic bristles, wood fibers can absorb moisture. This makes them very soft, and soft means gentle. At the same time, 1cm² of Siwak wood contains more fibers than 1cm² of toothbrush has bristles. More fibers means more cleaning.
